Who this guide is for: System administrators – Requires ‘System Admin’ role
Overview:
This guide explains e-days’ three-tier hierarchy (Global, Template, User) and shows how to identify which level a setting comes from by its colour-coded marker in the admin panel.
How System Hierarchy Works:
e-days lets you apply settings at three levels:
- Global (green): Applies to all users.
- Template (purple): Overrides Global for a subset of users.
- User (orange): Overrides both Global and Template for an individual.
Each lower level inherits settings from the one above unless you explicitly override it.
How to View Hierarchical Levels in the Admin Panel:
- Go to Admin tools > Admin panel and open any settings screen (e.g. Absence Types, Entitlements, User Templates).
- Observe the colour-coded marker to the left of each setting or field label:
- Green: Global setting
- Purple: Template setting
- Orange: User setting
- Hover or click into the setting to see its value and the source level.
- To override a higher-level value, update it at the current level and click Save/Save Template/Save User as appropriate.
Additional Information:
- Inheritance: Lower levels inherit from higher ones but can override them.
- Colour Markers: Provide at-a-glance visibility of the source level.
- Requires ‘System Admin’ role to view and edit all levels.
- Warning: Overriding at User level prevents higher-level changes from applying to that user.
- Tip: Use the search function within the platform to quickly find any setting.
