Who this guide is for
System administrators – Requires ‘System Admin’ role and Absence Types permission
Overview
Set organisation-wide rules for absence durations and booking notice periods at Global level to standardise policies across all users.
How Global Absence Rules (Length & Notice) Work
Global Absence Types settings let you:
- Set Minimum/Maximum Length for a single booking (e.g. 0.5 day minimum, 14 days maximum).
- Set Minimum/Maximum Notice Period in days (negative minimum allows retrospective booking; positive maximum limits how far ahead users can book).
These rules apply to all users unless overridden by Template or User settings.
How to Set Up Global Absence Rules
- Go to Admin tools > Admin panel > Global > Absence Types.
- Find the absence type (use Search) and click Edit.
- In Booking rules (or Min/Max settings), configure:
 • Minimum length (e.g. 0.5 for half-day minimum)
 • Maximum length (e.g. 14 for two-week maximum)
 • Minimum notice period (days) (e.g. -7 allows booking up to 7 days in the past)
 • Maximum notice period (days) (e.g. 365 allows booking up to 1 year ahead)
- Click Save at the top of the page.
Additional Information
- Length limits: Control the size of a single absence booking.
- Notice periods: Control how far before/after the absence date booking is allowed (negative = retrospective).
- Requires ‘System Admin’ role and Absence Types permission.
- Warning:Template and User level override Global. Changes apply immediately.
- Best practice: Set Global defaults first; use Template for departmental variations and User for one-off exceptions.
- Tip: Use the search function within the platform to quickly find features or settings.
